Weather woes

I started this post earlier in the week, but deleted it because it was just words about nothing.  The entire week has pretty much revolved around the weather.

Monday - cold
Tuesday - a little warmer, snow and blowing snow
Wednesday - getting colder, blustery with windchill near -30C.
Thursday - colder still, by 8 p.m. it was -27C, adding in the windchill it was closer to -35C.
Friday - freaking ridiculously cold in the morning -31C when I woke up, I don't even want to think about the windchill.  It "warmed" up through the day to -21C by evening.
Saturday - warmer still, about -17C in the morning and -12C by mid afternoon.  More snow!
From the indoors looking out...I really need to clear off the sills.
Sunday - temp remains around -12C, more freaking snow!**

I did get out a few times this week, getting groceries, going for coffee once, to stitch and chat, and to dinner with C.  Shovelling snow took me outside three times (thus far), and I've fed the birds every day as well.  Other than that, it's been a lot of sheltering indoors, working on a few knitting projects.  Eli's sweater needs to be sewn together and the neck edge completed.  I've currently got another baby blanket on the needles, and started crocheting an infinity scarf.  Keeping busy and warm has been the order of the day!

I've been watching the Continental Cup of Curling event since Thursday.  Sadly, our Canadian team hasn't fared any better than we have with the weather. There are still a few matches to be decided but if I were a betting person I'd be saying Europe will win the cup this year.  It still makes for entertaining watching...at least for me.

Have a great week everyone.  We're back into the deep freeze after Monday. Hope the weather is better where you are.

**At least we're not getting the freezing rain that others are experiencing in Ontario.  I may not like the snow and cold, but I'll take it over freezing rain any day.

  1. It sounds like your weather is much the same as that in southern Alberta, though our snow is very light, so far today. It is very cold, though - almost like a prairie winter!

  2. The weather outside sounds frightful! YUCK. We haven't that much nasty weather yet - but enough in my opinion. Lot's of winter left.
Have a good week and stay warm.

  3. I will be so glad to see the end of winter! My master bedroom is still leaking (slow drip between the interior walls), we just had 40.6 mm of rain yesterday and into this morning, followed by freezing rain and then a couple of cm of snow. We just had an ice storm on December 30th...not even 2 full weeks ago. I feel like I'll never be able to sleep in my own bed again....I would rather be dealing with snow and cold at the moment, our weather is nuts.

    There. My own rant! :-D

I hope your week ahead, weather-wise and life-wise, is GOOD!

  4. Oh man alive..I hate freezing rain like nothing else! All the years on that 12 hr shift rotation...living in the highest part of the city...the literal highest elevation..and in a slanted driveway in a slanted yard as well.. I used to have to gird up my loins and ask someone to come and get. As it was an essential job, they always did. I was made fun of at first but years passed with no one making fun any longer as they struggled to get up the hills to my house. And then, back DOWN again. Thing is I was guaranteed a 16 hr shift (4 hrs overtime) as nay relief could not make it in. Sigh. Hate ice.

  6. I have been staying in as well (other than a quick trip to the grocery between snow falls). I love living on the prairies, until the cold weather hits and then I wonder why.....

    God bless.

  9. We have yet to have our first snow here but tons of rain and high winds. This is not tornado season yet but we are getting them. The rains keep me in like the snow does you. I just don't have to shovel.

  11. Yikes! Edmonton where our kids are is -38 - holy crap. We are receiving our first real winter weather. A small snowfall yesterday and right now it is minus 8! The cold snap made it's way here. I am trying to keep the hummingbird feeder warm enough not to freeze. I think I will go get a second one today so I can switch them out (I bring them in at night when below zero, poor little things). By weeks end though we will be back to above freezing. Seriously I am such a wimp now! Stay warm :)

  12. And while you are shoveling snow I am hanging out in flip flops. It has been unseasonably warm here and if we don't get some cold soon the bugs will be horrid this summer.
